In order to prove that your client or their household has unmet housing need, and has a good solution, they will need to:
A Housing Needs Assessment is usually performed by a local authority occupational therapist, although other professionals can contribute if appropriate. Future needs as well as current needs need to be identified as grants are intended as a long-term solution. The result should be a written report with as much supportive information as possible from other sources such as GPs and support workers.
It may be helpful to see a sample assessment.
A housing specification should be drawn up that defines what is needed in a property and what is desirable. It should relate closely to the Housing Needs Assessment and will preferably be agreed with an occupational therapist.
A blank housing specification may be useful.
