Proving a solution is viable

Finally, even if there is genuine need, and no other solution is possible, if the client can't show that the solution is viable in the long term they will not be able to get a grant.

They will need to prove that:

They have sufficient capital

This will be needed to pay for any offer over the property valuation figure and for the costs of buying and moving. Your client will also have to show that any adaptations necessary for the property now or in the future have been identified and funded if applicable.

The purchase is affordable in the long term

If your client is employed, they will need to show that they can meet the costs of a mortgage. If they are using benefits to buy, they will need to show that those benefits are stable and secure enough source to fund the payment of a mortgage. The income and expenditure calculator may help them show this.

The need for the property will remain

A grant to move will generally only be given for a long-term solution. This may exclude situations where a person has a very limited lifespan, or where the disabled person may move from the household as in the case of a young person
